New Study Says Mom’s DNA Determines More About How You Age Than Previously Believed

September 5, 2013 by Skin Care Institute

20090914-mother-daughter-290x218There has been a new development in the age old nature vs. nurture skin care debate. A recent study published in the journal Nature suggests that how well (or not well) someone ages is determined by genes passed down from mother to child – or, more specifically, mutated genes.

Scientific researchers observed that children who inherited mutated mitochondrial DNA from their mother’s experienced “accelerated aging.” In other words, they aged quicker and faster, with signs of aging more noticeable than those who did not inherit these mutated genes.

Nature and Nuture

“For the first time, researchers have demonstrated that the aging process is not only affected by damage done to mitochondrial DNA during one’s life (i.e. lifestyle habits) but also by inherited damaged DNA from their mothers,” ScienceDaily.com asserted. Scientists are currently hard at work investigating whether reducing these mutations at the cell level can slow the aging process.

Good news for Skin Care Institute clients, however! You don’t have to be born with perfect genes to age gorgeously and gracefully. Our array of non-and minimally invasive skin rejuvenation services can greatly improve signs of aging, and all with little to no downtime!

For instance, did you know that photo facial technology has been proven to restore aged skin to, not only look years younger, but also stay looking younger? It’s true! A yearly series of 5 photo facials can keep Skin Care Institute clients looking their beautiful best for years to come by eliminating hyperpigmentation like broken capillaries, age spots, sun spots and more. And, it’s the perfect treatment as we head into the fall season, since it can’t be performed on tanned skin.
