We asked Skin Care Institute’s Master Nurse Injector Sarah Bower, RN, BSN, for the inside scoop on injectables, including the download on Skin Care Institute’s recent menu expansion with two advanced injectables treatments, MicroTox® and BeautiPHIcation™!
Here’s everything you ever wanted to know about injectables!
Q: What is your full name and title at Skin Care Institute?
Sarah: Hi! My name is Sarah Bower. I’m a registered nurse (RN) with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN), and I’m a Master Nurse Injector here at Skin Care Institute.
Q: What do you love most about Botox®?
Sarah: I love that Botox is great for all ages and skin types, from those who have very deep lines to someone who is just starting to get minor fine lines. I love that Botox softens the deepest of lines, giving them a more airbrushed appearance to where they don’t look so deep and so harsh. The smoothing of the lines gives us a more refreshed, awake, relaxed appearance that is noticeable, yet natural. For someone who is just starting to get fine lines, I love that Botox is able to rewind the clock, often reversing the tiny, new lines and prevent future wrinkles.
Q: What’s your favorite area to treat with Botox?
Sarah: The eyes! I love to give brows a lift that is very natural (not the joker brow type ;-)), one that makes the eyes appear larger, lessening the heaviness of the eyelid and lifting and shaping the brow, medially, laterally or both. Eyes are the focal point of the face and when the crow’s feet and wrinkles under the eyes and around the eyes relax and soften and the brow and eyelid lift, your eyes just “pop” in a good way, looking bright, beautiful and refreshed. I personally have little “jelly rolls” under my eyes (the natural bulge directly under the lower eye lid) that appears when I smile. Some of my clients have it as well. I love that I am able to smooth it out with Botox and make the eyes look bigger, brighter, smoother and more open. I have so much fun with the artistry when using Botox. Each person’s features are so unique and it’s fun to get to customize Botox treatments, really personalizing them so my patients feel proud and happy with how they look. We all know, how we look affects how we feel and vice versa, so a little Botox can go a long way in life.
Q: What do you like most about filler?
Sarah: I love the artistry with filler and I love that it’s instant gratification. I’ll tell my clients to look in the hand-held mirror and put an area in their minds-eye then I will do a couple of pokes and show them the area again. I love the “Wow!” and the delight in their eyes and the occasional happy tears. That just makes my day, and I feel so grateful to get to affect people in that way! Filler is so fun!
Q: Why did Skin Care Institute decide to offer MicroTox and BeautiPHIcation?
Sarah: Techniques for injecting are always evolving. MicroTox and BeautiPHIcation are great examples of different ways to inject that enhance our skills and broaden our tool set. Ultimately, we want to provide the best results possible for our clients, so at Skin Care Institute we have a strong emphasis on education and continued training so we can be our best for our clients.
Q: Has BeautiPHIcation training helped you become a better injector?
Sarah: BeautiPHIcation has given me more options and tools to use with clients when discussing and determining a treatment plan. The use of the calipers helps people see things in a more objective manor versus just the subjectivity of our own eye for what we think needs changing. The calipers show them proper proportions derived from the golden ratio and we are able to determine areas in which to provide lift, volume etc., to achieve a more balanced, proportional, aesthetically pleasing result.
Q: Some people are confused about the difference between Botox and MicroTox. Can you explain MicroTox?
Sarah: MicroTox is a method of injecting Botox in which the muscle relaxation has a more immediate effect. It can tighten the skin on the face and neck, reducing crepiness. It was developed by Leslie Fletcher at InjectAbility Institute, whom I was lucky enough to be trained by on the technique. It is used in a multitude of areas and ways, from slimming the jawline, recontouring and slimming the nose, under-eye crepiness, cheek and neck crepiness, pebbly chin, smoothing of the lips and much more. It is yet another tool to achieve the best results possible, for the right candidate.
